Chinese Student Tragically Killed In Cycling Accident

The family of a Chinese student who was killed tragically in a road traffic accident when she was cycling and came into collision with a bus feel that they may be entitled to make a personal injury claim.

Xuan Wei, 21, was cycling to the University of Central Lancashire in Preston when she was in collision with the bus. She had been in the UK for just over a year and was studying for a Masters Degree in Human Resource Management.

A spokesman for the Chinese Student and Scholar Association (CSSA) explained that if a similar accident happened in China the family would expect to receive a payment from the bus company or educational establishment, whether the liability for the accident lay with them or not.

He went on to explain, that “The key point here is that because the Chinese family send their kids to this country, they believe that the school has the responsibility to look after their children. From the Chinese point of view, the university should pay. The university, the consulate, everybody is trying to do a good job by the parents, but the only problem is the misunderstanding of cultures. Maybe the university can be more organised and make their responsibilities clear in the future.”
