Festive Drink Driving Figures Down In Hertfordshire

road traffic accidentsFollowing a Christmas clamp down on drinking and driving in Cambridge and Hertfordshire, police say that more still needs to be done to avoid serious road accidents.

Despite the drop in Hertfordshire, police report that some drivers are still driving while under the influence of alcohol and they are asking for people to report anyone they know who is guilty of getting behind the wheel after having a drink.

Campaign Figures Released

The national drink-driving campaign which was held in December revealed local figures for Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Cambridge Policing Units. The overall results specified an increase in drivers who were arrested after being stopped although Hertfordshire figures showed there were 40 less people pulled than in 2012.

A police spokesman said that even though the figures were down in Herts it was still a concern that people were using drugs and drinking before driving and that they will continue to target drivers throughout the year.

Drink Driving Hotline

Coinciding with the results of the campaign is the release of a new dedicated 24 hour phone number and website for people from Hertfordshire who believe they may know someone who has been driving while under the influence of alcohol.

The advice from police is to stick solely to non-alcoholic drinks while on a night out and to not try and guess whether they are under the limit by having one alcoholic drink. They also encourage the use of a designated driver and the use of public transport if going out drinking.
