Fatal Dog Attacks on the Rise
16 May 2022
A 3-year-old boy has sadly died after a suspected dog attack in Manchester. The boy was taken to hospital following an ambulance attending the scene, but the boy died from his wounds in a suspected attack by a dog.
Det Supt Jamie Daniels, of GMP’s Public Protection and Serious Crime Division, said: “This is a tragic, devastating incident, and our thoughts are with the family at this horrendous time. While our inquiries to find out what happened will be thorough and are very much in their infancy, we suspect that this little boy has, sadly, succumbed to injuries received as a result of a dog attack."
The fatal dog attack in Manchester follows five people dying from dog attacks in the period from November 2021-April 2022.
On average there are usually three fatalities a year from dog attacks. The increase in attacks have led to calls for an overhaul of the Dangerous Dogs Act, which dates back to 1991 and criminalises ownership of four breeds.
