Two men who attempted to make bogus accident claims against Oldham Council have been jailed for total of 10 months.

Defective Steps

One of the men claimed that he had injured himself in a fall on defective steps in June 2004. His claims were supported by a friend who said that he had witnessed the accident. An investigation found that the man had been alone at the time of the accident and it had not been witnessed by his friend. Subsequently, the case was referred to the Crime Prosecution Service and the police. The man was order to pay court fees totalling £6,405, then charged and later jailed along with his friend.
