Toe Injury Compensation

While they may be small, an injury to a toe can be incredibly painful, inconvenient and costly to the victim. If you do suffer an injury to your toe or toes as a result of negligence you could be entitled to compensation.

Common toe injuries

There are a number of common toe injuries which could occur during an accident, including:

A fractured toe

Probably the most common type of injury to toes is a fracture. Usually this happens as a result of a sudden impact, such as in a car accident, motorcycling crash or pedestrian collision; crushing (a common cause of toe injuries in the workplace); tripping accidents caused by stubbing your toe or tripping on defective flooring or pavements. Types of fracture include hairline, simple or displaced.

Crush toe injuries

Crushing of the toes does not necessarily just cause a fracture. Other injuries can occur include tendon damage, ligament damage, and soft tissue damage. Crush injuries can cause pain throughout the foot and lead to severe problems such and reduced mobility and, in some cases, amputation.

Toe amputation

Severe injuries to the toes and feet can ultimately lead to the toe dying and gangrene setting in. Gangrene can spread to healthy parts of the body if an amputation to the toe does not occur.

Toe amputations can be complete or partial: a partial amputation is when part of a toe is removed (for instance the toe knuckle) and in a full amputation the whole of the toe is removed. The big toe is an incredibly important part of the body affecting both balance and function. If the toe has to be amputated this will be regarded as a very serious foot injury with victims expecting larger compensation payouts.

Toe injury payouts

Toe injuries can range from heavy bruising caused by stubbing, falls and trips to bone breaks and crush injuries, which can take weeks and months to heal.

The main issue associated with toe injuries is the effect it has on the individual’s mobility, especially if crutches are needed – making walking, climbing stairs, driving and many other everyday tasks very difficult. If you have suffered a minor toe injury through no fault of your own please contact First Personal Injury today to discuss your claim.

If you have had an accident during which a toe injury occurred, perhaps as a result of a slip, trip or fall, and it was not your fault, you could be eligible to make a personal injury compensation claim. Call First Personal Injury today to find out about making a claim.
