Tattoo Compensation Claims

Tattoo Compensation Claims.

Whilst getting a tattoo is certainly an exciting opportunity, the ever-growing popularity of tattoo has also led to an increase in injury. The most common injury in relation to tattoo application is an infection due to the use of unsterile equipment.

Tattoo removal is also a common practice that is generally safe but if there is negligent behaviour from the removal practitioner, there could possibly be an injury such as burns.

If you have suffered an injury due to tattoo application or removal, you can call us on 0333 358 2345 or contact us online where we will assess your right to tattoo compensation claims.

Tattoo Application or Removal Injuries

Getting a tattoo or having one removed is a big commitment, therefore tattoo studios usually follow a strict set of health and safety regulations to ensure you do not suffer injury. This includes creating a sterile work environment and ensuring that all tools relating to application or removal procedures are clean, with needles usually not being used twice. However, accidents can sometimes occur.

Possible injuries from tattoo removal include:

Skin discoloration – skin becomes lighter or darker around the area which has been impacted by laser removal.

  • Burns – If the laser is set too intensely for someone’s skin or for what is needed for the specificity of the tattoo, the skin which has been touched by the laser could be burned.
  • Infection – An infection could occur in the area that has been treated by the laser treatment.

Possible injuries from tattoo application include:

  • Infectious disease transmission – this type of injury or complication is fairly rare due to studios generally not reusing needles and sterilising their equipment but an infectious disease, such as Hepatitis C, could possibly be transmitted if equipment is not sterilised.
  • Keloid scars – if you suffer an allergic reaction or do not follow the correct steps during the aftercare process, a keloid scar could occur in the area where the tattoo has been applied. Keloid scars are raised parts of scar tissue and occur after the skin has healed from an injury, as tattoo application does actually cause a wound to the skin.
  • Skin infection – due to the fact that getting a tattoo does actually injure the top and middle skin layers, there is always the possibility of infection if aftercare steps are not correctly taken or if the tattoo was done poorly.
  • Allergic reactions – the materials of the tattoo ink could cause an allergic reaction. Some ink contains plastic which could cause the symptoms of an allergic reaction, such as rashes or swelling, to occur in certain people.

Claiming for Tattoo Removal or Application Clinical Negligence

If you have suffered an injury due to tattoo application or removal, it is possible to claim money for the initial injury or infection. However, if the injury has been so severe that you have been unable to return to work, then you may be able to claim for any financial losses that have occurred.

Every tattoo removal or application case is unique, so each case will have to be assessed on an individual basis. A solicitor and a medical practitioner if needed will assess the extent of your injuries and the impact that this has had on your life when trying to work out the amount of compensation you are owed.
