Hand Injury Claims
Hand Injury Claims
Hand injuries are a fairly common form of personal injury claim but there are many different types of hand injuries you could experience.
Hand injuries can happen anywhere, in the workplace, or in your personal life. No matter the specific cause of your injuries, as long as the accident was not your fault it is likely that you are entitled to compensation.

Amount of Compensation for Hand Injuries
Every personal injury case is unique and has to be assessed on an individual basis. However, there are certain guidelines and estimates that can be made about the amount of compensation you are likely to receive based upon previous decisions made for similar injuries. For example, serious damage to both hands could lead to anywhere between £44,550-£67,410 in compensation. In contrast, the development of Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) could result in £2,390 – £30,630 depending upon severity.

It is important to also note that compensation will usually also cover additional expenses, known as special damages, relating to your accident. For example, if you have been unable to return to work due to your hand injury or you have had to incur large travel costs to get treatment, compensation could cover this. Therefore, you should keep receipts of any costs relating to your accident to later use as evidence.
Injuries in the Workplace
Injuries in the workplace can happen for a lot of different reasons, such as not being provided with the correct personal protective equipment by your employer, falling off a ladder, or trapping your hand in a filing cabinet. If you believe that your accident was caused by negligent conduct on the part of your employer, such as failing to give you adequate training for your job, or another employee then you may be able to claim compensation.
Certain injuries are more likely to happen inside the workplace, depending upon your job. For example, crushing injuries are more likely to happen in warehouse or manufacturing environments where there is interaction with heavy objects and machinery rather than in someone’s personal life.
No matter the seriousness of your injury, First Personal Injury can guide you through the legal process and we will do our best to take the pressure that you might feel about fighting a legal battle away from you. While some people may worry that making a claim against their employer could result in vindictive action against them, such as being fired, this would be a wrongful dismissal and could be grounds for further legal action against them. Your employer has a duty of care to ensure your safety and if that duty of care is not met, you deserve to be able to claim compensation.
